STORYTELLING THROUGH MUSIC, CHORAL WORK AND DANCE culminates in this vivid program beginning with Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber, an orchestral work written by German composer Paul Hindemith in America in 1943. Although by its thematic material it belongs squarely in the European tradition, it was composed with the virtuosity of American symphony orchestras in mind.  The second half of the evening welcomes the Las Vegas Master Singers, our Chorus-In Residence, as well as the UNLV Concert Singers and Chamber Chorale to the stage for Carl Orff’s towering and beloved cantata Carmina Burana....

IN HONOR OF internationally beloved American Composer Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday and to mark the second year of our American German Cultural Exchange Fellowship, we present an evening that begins with Bernstein’s Fancy Free Variations from the ballet about three sailors on shore-leave in New York City, which premiered to instant popularity in 1944.  Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, nicknamed  “Emperor” is one of his most famous and the final piano concerto he wrote.  A colossal work, it amplifies the virtuosity demanded of the player....
