About Camp Broadway

The Smith Center remains one of the select sites nationwide to offer Camp Broadway each summer for theater-loving kids ages 7-17. Camp Broadway is a unique theater-arts experience taught by trained Broadway professionals. Using Broadway’s cherished works and its grand traditions for inspiration, the Camp Broadway experience is designed to build confidence, inspire creative expression and instill well-being in both aspiring artists and future audiences.

Camp Broadway at The Smith Center offers two age-appropriate camps: Shining Stars for ages 7 to 9 for up to 40 campers and Mainstage for ages 10 to 17 for up to 100 campers. Campers learn singing, dancing, acting and more, but they also enjoy the authentic experience of putting on a theater production for their families.

For ages 7-9: Tuition for all Camp Broadway programs include instruction by trained professionals, branded rehearsal t-shirts, an individual photo, and lunch on Wednesday and Friday. *Campers will be required to bring lunch Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday that do not require heating or refrigeration.

Camp Broadway currently offers age-appropriate programs for performers ages 7-9 and ages 10-17. The complexity and difficulty of the curriculum has been developed through years of experience in providing an informative performing arts experience that is relevant to a child’s normal level of mental and physical stamina during these formative years. To ensure that each young performer has a happy, memorable, and successful experience, Camp Broadway’s management and creative team strongly recommend that you select the program designed with your child’s age in mind.

Camp Broadway is an ensemble-based program designed for young people who love theatre.
Participants come from a range of performance backgrounds. Theatre-loving kids new to performance will have the wonderful opportunity of exploring areas of the creative. Our staff members are accomplished professionals, and any experienced performer will be inspired and challenged to learn from teachers of this caliber. Camp Broadway strives to foster a positive and creative environment in which each performer is challenged appropriately for their individual experience level.

Camp Broadway serves as an authentic conduit and connection between theatre-loving kids and the pinnacle of the Broadway world. In doing so, it provides insight into countless areas of the industry not accessible to the typical theatregoer. In addition to furthering actual skills, our curriculum opens a window of opportunity to see creative skills applied to areas beyond performance that could eventually become a catalyst for a career in the creative arts.

For ages 7-9: Shining Stars Camp has a maximum group size of 40 children and is split into two smaller groups for parts of the day. This group works together as a unit during specific group rehearsals.

For ages 10-17: The entire group of participants is subdivided into smaller groups according to age. The younger group and older group each present a show in the final performance. Each show title has a cast of approximately 50 children. Each cast is further divided into two groups of 22-27 participants of a similar age. These groups work together as a unit throughout the week and may be broken down into groups of 11-13 campers for various activities.

Children are supervised from the time they are dropped off at camp to the time they are picked up by an authorized guardian. The children are always supervised during Camp Broadway classes, activities, and mealtimes. We maintain a maximum staff to camper ratio of 1:12.

We are experienced in handling many dietary situations and we look forward to working together to ensure a healthy and safe camp experience for your child. If your child has medical dietary restrictions or food allergies, please indicate this information in the space provided on the registration form. If necessary, we will contact you directly to discuss your needs in detail. *However, if your camper has severe food allergies or strict dietary needs, please pack their lunch as well as snacks for each day of camp, not just Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Please do not include sugary treats or drinks and instruct your camper there will be no sharing of lunch or snacks.

You may authorize others to be added to your child’s sign-out list; if a person is so authorized, we will release your child to them at sign-out. This authorization must be done in writing. Camp Broadway cannot accept sign-out authorizations over the phone. You can always add to your child’s authorization form by completing a form for additional authorized persons onsite during registration.

All teaching staff undergoes a thorough background check by a qualified agency.

At registration, your child will be given two Camp Broadway t-shirts; each camper must wear a Camp Broadway t-shirt every day. Comfortable, non-constricting clothes and soft-soled sneakers or dance shoes should be worn for class. No jeans, flip-flops, sandals, or platform shoes are allowed.

If your child does not have dance shoes, it is not necessary to purchase them. Soft-soled sneakers or tennis shoes are acceptable. No flip-flops, sandals or platform shoes are permitted. (If your child does have dance shoes, they can of course wear them.)

Participants will be asked to bring simple costume pieces to wear in the Family Finale. These are items you will likely have in your closet at home. You will receive an e-mail approximately five weeks prior to the start of the program with costume suggestions for your participant’s group.

In addition to rehearsing the show for the Family Finale, Camp Broadway teaches workshops on a range
of topics such as scene study, song interpretation, and dance.

Due to space constraints, parents are not permitted to watch rehearsals.

A refillable water bottle, lunch, a light jacket or sweatshirt and a desire to have fun and be creative.

For ages 7-9: The Family Finale will be held at The Smith Center in the Troesh Studio Theater. The performance will be held the last day of camp, generally 1-3pm. The specific time will be noted in the information that is emailed to you before camp begins, and in the material, you will be given at registration.

For ages 10-17: The Family Finale will be held at The Smith Center in Reynolds Hall. The performance will be held late afternoon on the last day of Camp, generally 4-6pm. The specific time will be noted in the information that is emailed to you before camp begins, and in the material, you will be given at registration.

*Early Enrollment Savings is only applicable when paid in full at time of purchase. Discount does not apply when registering with a deposit.

$25 Service Fee Per Camper Applies

Deposit available for full-price payment plans only. $50 non-refundable deposit plus $25 Service Fee secures your place, with remaining payments due on: 2/28/2025; 4/30/2025; 6/30/2025.

Camp Broadway Refund Policy:

$75 (deposit and service fee) is non-refundable. For cancellations earlier than four weeks prior to July 1, 2025, you will be refunded the full amount paid, minus the deposit. For cancellations between two and four weeks prior to July 1, 2025, you will be refunded half of the amount paid, minus the deposit. For cancellations less than two weeks prior to July 1, 2025, you will receive no refund.
