The Smith Center presented its annual Heart of Education Awards for the final time in April 2023, capping off eight years honoring outstanding Clark County School District educators.
Upholding the event’s tradition of celebrating hardworking teachers with the fanfare they deserve, the center recognized more than 5,000 individuals at red-carpet ceremonies over the years, honoring 161 award-winning teachers.
Thanks to generous financial support from The Rogers Foundation and help from the public, The Smith Center was pleased to recognize educators who went above and beyond to put kids first, not just teaching but inspiring. Finalists received gifts generously donated by community sponsors and partners, while winners received $5,000 cash awards for their outstanding achievements, along with $1,000 donations to a school program of their choice.
As a testament to the importance of this prestigious awards ceremony, notable keynote speakers included then-Second Lady Dr. Jill Biden, former First Lady Laura W. Bush, acclaimed CBS Sunday Morning correspondent Mo Rocca, and Gayle King, renowned co-host of CBS Mornings. Showstopping performers throughout the years included musicians Clint Holmes and Frankie Moreno, comedian/magician Mac King, Broadway star Capathia Jenkins, poet Shane Koyczan, and comedians Eddie B. and George Wallace.
