Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández was founded in 1952 by dancer and choreographer Amalia Hernández and quickly gained prominence in Mexico after being featured on weekly programs there during the 1950s.
-
The company quickly grew from its original eight performers to more than 300 members and opened a dance school of its own.
-
Founder Amalia Hernández, who lived from 1917 until 2000, choreographed more than 60 ballets during her career. She dedicated her life to tirelessly showcasing the artistic value of Mexican culture onstage.
-
The Ballet brings together the dazzling music, dance and costuming of Mexican folklore, from pre-Colombian civilizations to the modern era.
-
Of Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández’s live performances, The New York Times wrote: “The dancers, clad in eye-popping pink, green and turquoise, move in battalion-worthy, cascading lines, their small stamping steps sharply reminiscent of tap. The gorgeous costumes and breathtaking formations keep coming, dance after dance.”

The Ballet is permanently in residence at the iconic Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, where it performs three times each week.
-
The company has also reached more than 45 million spectators worldwide, performing in more than 80 countries.
