Supporting the Arts
From the Great Depression of the 1930s to the current COVID-19 pandemic, University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) has never wavered in its mission to save and improve lives while expanding access to high-quality care.
Serving Southern Nevada for more than 90 years — and now sponsoring The Smith Center’s 2022-2023 Broadway Las Vegas® Series — UMC provides the state’s highest level of care. This includes offering Nevada’s only Level I Trauma Center, Designated Pediatric Trauma Center, Verified Burn Center and Center for Transplantation.
All of these services center around UMC’s groundbreaking ICARE model, which focuses on promoting improved medical outcomes by reducing stress, providing a more comfortable environment and offering valuable hope. To support patients during their greatest times of need, UMC provides innovative, patient-focused services that enhance the hospital experience, such as pet therapy, child life services, aromatherapy, Healing Touch and relaxation therapy.
UMC’s medical team offers these for a wide range of patients, including those recovering from critical injuries and illnesses. Pediatric patients also enjoy access to highly specialized child life services and a groundbreaking virtual reality program designed to alleviate stress and reduce the need for narcotic pain medication.
“These unique programs have a direct impact on our patients, many of whom spend months at the hospital receiving highly specialized care from our world-class team of medical professionals,” says UMC Chief Experience Officer Danita Cohen.
To continue building on this acclaimed model of care, the UMC Foundation will host its inaugural Evening of Hope Gala on October 20 at Wynn Las Vegas. Featuring Broadway superstars Katharine McPhee and Erich Bergen, in addition to many other top entertainers and celebrity chefs, the event will raise funds to enhance UMC’s child life services, integrative therapy programs, and music and pet therapy.
“With valuable support from our community partners, we’ve put together an unforgettable evening to raise funds that will directly benefit our patients at UMC and UMC Children’s Hospital,” Cohen says. “Every dollar raised during the Evening of Hope Gala will help us enhance the healing environment for many of our community’s most critically ill and injured patients.”
