The Smith Center’s 2026-2027 Broadway season can only conclude one way – with the perfectly titled Maybe Happy Ending, of course.
The show, which opened in Seoul, South Korea, in 2016 before making its way to Broadway and now on tour for the first time, tells the deeply human story of a chance encounter that sparks connection, adventure and maybe even love.
Here are five reasons to grab tickets for the show’s June 8-13 run at The Smith Center once they become available later this fall:
-
The story is completely original, with a very cool backstory.
Lyricist and book writer Hue Park was sitting in a Brooklyn coffee shop in 2014 when he heard “Everyday Robots” by Damon Albarn, frontman of Blur and Gorillaz. It got him thinking, What if he wrote a heartfelt story about love, aging and relationships, but the protagonists were androids who look like humans? Intrigued? So are we.
-
It won six Tonys®, including the prestigious Best Musical award, in 2025.
It also picked up Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical and Best Leading Actor in a Musical. So yeah, it’s a big deal.
-
The tech will enthrall you.
Maybe Happy Ending’s staging utilizes 450 individual LED tiles across the entire performance space, and those screens serving as a passive backdrop, the technology functions as a living character, reflecting the programming, memories and worldview of the two main characters.
-
It has a superb score.
The Tony®-winning music by Will Aronson and Hue Park provides a rich, soulful soundtrack featuring a jazz singer, which will stick with you long after the curtain falls.
-
You can go out after – or get to bed early.
Clocking in at one hour and 40 minutes – with no intermission – Maybe Happy Ending keeps the energy high and holds your attention throughout.
