The Notebook originated as a bestselling Nicholas Sparks romance novel in 1996 before being adapted into a beloved 2004 film. Now, the musical version, which opened on Broadway in 2024, is headed to town for its Las Vegas debut, March 31 to April 5.

Here are three reasons to be inside Reynolds Hall when the lights dim for a show the Chicago Sun-Times has hailed as “a stage musical for the ages.”

  1. Those who adored the book and movie have been singing the musical’s praises.

They’ve been returning for repeat performances, and they’ve been queueing up to bring home copies of the soundtrack. Entertainment Weekly even touted the musical as the story’s “finest adaptation yet.”

  1. Newcomers have fallen in love, too.

Those who come in with no connection to The Notebook have quickly fallen under the spell of married couple Noah and Alice Calhoun, portrayed across three periods of their lifetimes by three sets of actors. It’s a reminder that ultimately, when a story has this much emotional depth, it doesn’t require prior knowledge to be highly enjoyable.

  1. The music is so memorable.

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson composed all the songs in The Notebook, and her style – which places a premium on intimate lyrics and warm, straightforward melodies – is a perfect fit for an emotional show built around memories, the passage of time and enduring love.
