Nevada Ballet Theatre Serves Up New Season of Imagination

Performances and Artists

During challenging times, a spark of imagination can lift the spirits – and Nevada Ballet Theatre (NBT) will present shows packed with fantastical thrills for its 2022-2023 season.

With ballets that range from haunting and mysterious to bright and whimsical, this season will offer entertaining shows with acrobatic performances, certain to enchant longtime NBT fans, as well as those new to ballet.

In anticipation of this delightful season, check out highlights of these upcoming performances below.

Dracula – October 6 to 9

Southern Nevadans will find no better way to kick off the Halloween season than with NBT’s spine-tingling production of Ben Stevenson’s Dracula. One of America’s foremost choreographers, Stevenson reimagines Bram Stoker's sinister tale through the lens of classic ballet, with athletic movements and dazzling aerial effects.

Grandiose set pieces help bring this classic story to life, with the production fittingly performed to lush, gothic music by Franz Liszt.

The Nutcracker – December 9 to 24

The sparkling magic of this holiday favorite never fades.

NBT’s production of The Nutcracker sets the standard for this festive staple, with breathtaking visual effects like a flying sled, stunning set pieces such as an elaborate, 40-foot dollhouse, and exquisite costuming. This sparkling production also offers a live orchestra performing Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s enchanting score.

With an accessible presentation that features the synopsis projected on a screen, this production delights audiences of all ages, making it a fitting introduction to ballet for younger generations.

Blue Until June – February 18 and 19, 2023

NBT has debuted world premieres of energizing ballets by internationally acclaimed choreographer Trey McIntyre, and now the dance company will perform his highly athletic yet poignant piece “Blue Until June.” Exploring love and heartache with explosive, heart-wrenching movement, all set to powerful music by icon Etta James, this ballet has entranced audiences nationwide.

NBT will also perform the popular Allegro Brillante ballet by legendary choreographer George Balanchine, who remains credited with revolutionizing ballet in America. The late choreographer once described this joyful ballet as “everything I know about classical ballet in 13 minutes," showcasing a wide range of graceful and vigorous movement.

The show will even include the world premiere of a ballet by Sidra Bell, a highly sought choreographer whose ballets have been performed throughout the United States and worldwide in Denmark, Austria, Germany, Canada, Aruba, Spain, France, Brazil and Greece.

The Wizard of Oz – May 13 to 21, 2023

A playful reimagining of the classic story, this ballet offers a magical journey for all ages with mesmerizing stagecraft, delightful costumes and rollicking dance.

Receiving widespread acclaim for his vivacious ballet Alice (in Wonderland), which NBT performed in 2019, esteemed choreographer Septime Webre captures the characters from L. Frank Baum’s book with exuberant movement. As a lifelong fan of this story, Webre says he created this ballet because these characters “beg to be danced, and that so much could still be discovered using our metaphorical language of ballet.”
