Insider Insight: The Smith Center’s 2025-2026 Broadway Season

There’s a lot to love about The Smith Center’s upcoming Toyota Broadway Las Vegas® Series – nine shows that have been showered with praise from audiences and critics alike and have combined to receive 23 Tony Awards®, 26 Drama Desk Awards®, 13 Outer Critics Circle Awards® and two Grammy Awards®.

Dig even deeper, however, and you’ll find even more reasons to get excited about a batch of Broadway musicals that begins with Some Like It Hot in July 2025 and concludes with Hell’s Kitchen in June 2026.

Some Like It Hot

July 22-27, 2025

Summary: This hilarious, Tony®- and Grammy®-winning musical comedy is adapted from the classic 1959 film of the same name. During Prohibition, jazz players Joe and Jerry are forced to flee Chicago after witnessing a mob hit. Disguised as women, they join a traveling band and begin performing on a cross-country train, with plans to slip off to Mexico. High jinks and unexpected relationships ensue, but with gangsters and the FBI on their trail – and their true identities on the verge of being discovered – time is running out for the desperate musicians.

Insider Insight: Marc Shaiman, who created the music for this stage adaptation of Some Like It Hot, boasts an incredible career résumé of composing and arranging music for theater (Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can), film (When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men) and TV (Saturday Night Live, The Academy Awards).

A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Story

August 12-17, 2025

Synopsis: Created in collaboration with Neil Diamond himself, this is the uplifting true story of a kid from Brooklyn becoming a chart-busting, show-stopping American rock icon. It begins with young Neil, a gifted but unsure songwriter, navigating his way in the music industry. As he finds his voice, he encounters key turning points, including complicated relationships, the pressures of fame and the creation of legendary songs like “America,” "Forever in Blue Jeans” and “Sweet Caroline.” His evolution is marked by his creative breakthroughs and the people who influenced his sound, such as his manager, family and romantic partners.

Inside Insight: Diamond, who has sold more than 130 records during his illustrious career, was ranked among the 25 Greatest Artists of All Time by Billboard magazine in 2019. The only artist to notch a Top 20 hit in each decade since the 1960s, Diamond has reached Billboard’s Top 40 with more than 35 singles through the years – many of which are featured in A Beautiful Noise.

SUFFS

October 7-12, 2025

Synopsis: Suffs is a fabulously entertaining, Tony Award®-winning musical about the brilliant, passionate and funny American women who fought tirelessly for the right to vote. Set in the early 20th century, the show follows Alice Paul, an ambitious and relentless activist, who becomes a driving force in the campaign for women’s suffrage. As the movement intensifies, Suffs explores the internal and external conflicts these women faced: the personal sacrifices, the pushback from society and government, and the complex relationships between different suffrage factions.

Insider Insight: Suffs creator Shaina Taub, who starred as Alice Paul during the show’s Broadway run, became just the second woman in Broadway history to write the book and lyrics and star in her own musical. (The first was Micki Grant with her 1971 musical, Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope.) Taub won Tony Awards® for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original School for Suffs.

STEREOPHONIC

October 21-26, 2025

Synopsis: The most Tony Award®-winning show of 2024 mines the agony and ecstasy of creation, zooming in on a music studio in 1976. An up-and-coming rock band recording a new album suddenly finds itself on the cusp of superstardom. The ensuing pressures could spark the group’s breakup … or its breakthrough. Stereophonic invites the audience to immerse itself – with fly-on-the-wall intimacy – in the powder keg process of a band on the brink of blowing up.

Insider Insight: Will Butler, who wrote original songs for Stereophonic, spent 18 years as a member of the Grammy®-winning Arcade Fire, an indie rock band fronted by his older brother, Win. Having been previously nominated for an Academy Award® for his contributions to the original score for the film Her, Will Butler received Tony® nominations for Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations for Stereophonic.

DISNEY’S THE LION KING

November 19-30, 2025

Synopsis: Winner of six Tony Awards® including Best Musical, this landmark musical event brings together one of the most imaginative creative teams on Broadway and features some of Broadway’s most recognizable music, crafted by Tony®-winning artists Elton John and Tim Rice. It follows the coming-of-age journey of Simba, a young lion prince, as he navigates loss, guilt and responsibility to reclaim his rightful place as king. After the tragic death of his father, Mufasa, Simba runs away, believing he is to blame for the accident. Years later, he is encouraged by his friends Timon and Pumbaa and his childhood love Nala to return to the Pride Lands and confront his past.

Insider Insight: The Lion King, a wildly popular show that opened on Broadway in 1997, continues to run there to this day, making it the third-longest running show in Broadway history behind only The Phantom of the Opera (which ran from 1988 to 2023) and Chicago (which opened in 1996). Even more impressively, The Lion King is the top-grossing Broadway production of all time, having grossed more than $1.9 billion to date.

SPAMALOT

February 24-March 1, 2026

Synopsis: This musical comedy lovingly adapts the cult-classic film Monty Python and the Holy Grail for the stage. The story follows King Arthur and his band of quirky knights as they embark on a quest to find the Holy Grail. Along the way, they face absurd challenges, battle ridiculous foes and encounter memorable characters like the Lady of the Lake. Filled with witty humor, silly antics and catchy songs such as “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” Spamalot parodies medieval legends, musicals and everything in between.

Insider Insight: The music for Spamalot was co-written by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, the latter a member of Monty Python throughout its beloved original run from 1969 to 1983. Idle, who also wrote the book and lyrics for Spamalot, is known for such iconic Python roles as Arthur Nudge, Sir Robin from The Holy Grail and Mr. Cheeky from The Life of Brian.

THE NOTEBOOK

March 31-April 5, 2026

Synopsis: Based on the best-selling Nicholas Sparks novel that inspired the iconic film, The Notebook follows the enduring love story of Noah and Allie. In the present, Noah reads to his wife, Allie, who is suffering from dementia, recounting their shared past. Flashbacks reveal their passionate romance in the 1940s, when they came from different social classes before falling deeply in love. Despite separation, distance and family expectations, their connection never fades. As Allie reconnects with Noah years later, the two must face the realities of their lives and choose whether to fight for the love that never truly went away.

Insider Insight: Ingrid Michaelson, who wrote the music and lyrics for the stage adaptation of The Notebook, has released 10 solo albums, six of which have reached the Top 5 of Billboard’s Independent Albums chart. Michaelson’s biggest hits, 2007’s “The Way I Am” and 2014’s “Girls Chase Boys,” have both been certified platinum.

SHUCKED

June 2-7, 2026

Synopsis: Set in a fictional, small, quirky farm town, this Tony Award® winner is a hilarious and heartwarming musical about a community’s love for its crops – and the unexpected adventure that follows when a mysterious problem threatens its corn supply. When a young woman named Maizy sets off to find a solution, she uncovers secrets, forms unlikely alliances and discovers that sometimes, the heartland holds more surprises than anyone expects. Packed with humor, catchy songs and heartfelt moments, Shucked is a celebration of community, resilience and the unexpected twists of life.

Insider Insight: In January 2024 onstage at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre, Shucked lead producer Mike Bosner announced that Mandalay Pictures planned to adapt the musical into a feature film. Also, fun fact: 45 cobs of corn are used onstage in the touring production each night.

HELL’S KITCHEN

June 23-28, 2026

Synopsis: Hell’s Kitchen is a coming-of-age musical inspired by music superstar Alicia Keys’ own experiences growing up in 1990s New York City. Set in the vibrant-yet-gritty neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, the story follows 17-year-old Ali as she navigates the challenges of adolescence, first love and the pursuit of her dreams, all under the watchful eye of her protective mother. Featuring a score packed with Keys’ iconic hits and new original music, the show explores themes of self-discovery, resilience and the power of music to shape identity.

Insider Insight: Keys has sold more than 90 million records worldwide, was named the Top Artist of the 2000s in the R&B/Hip-Hop category by Billboard magazine and has racked up a whopping 17 Grammy Awards® throughout her career. Her songs “Fallin’,” “No One” and “Empire State of Mind” (with Jay-Z) have all reached No. 1 on the charts – and are all featured in Hell’s Kitchen.
