Meet Joseph Kekuku. In 1889, Joseph, a student at Kamehameha Schools, fabricated a steel bar in the school’s machine shop, slid it across the strings of his guitar and changed the sound and shape of the instrument forever. He inspired musicians around the world with the new “Hawaiian Sound,” and his influence continues today.

Seating up to 250, Troesh Studio Theater offers a versatile space for engaging performances that are best enjoyed up close. Housing a wide range of shows such as classical ensemble performances, dramatic plays, family shows and stand-up comedy, this venue is guaranteed to provide an immersive entertainment experience.
Popular performances include the Las Vegas Philharmonic’s Spotlight Concert Series, showcasing intimate performances of acclaimed chamber music.
Both floor and tiered seating sections allow audience members two options to enjoy their entertainment experience. Beverages can be purchased in the lobby bar and brought into the theatre, including specialty cocktails, beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks.
Seating is general admission within the two seating sections.
Troesh Studio Theater also serves as a flexible space for special events throughout the year, including many of The Smith Center’s education and outreach programs, community gatherings and rehearsals for local performance groups.
