Discovering The Smith Center
As the Symphony Park area around The Smith Center changes, so do the parking options for those of you coming Downtown for performances and other events here. When Kevin Spencer performs a magic trick, curiosity is instantly sparked — no matter if he’s in front of a kindergarten class or working with Parkinson’s patients. “It doesn’t make any difference if you’re 5 years old, if you’re 50 years old, if you’re 100 years old … everybody is intrigued by the seeming impossibility of a magic trick,” he says.

The Notebook originated as a bestselling Nicholas Sparks romance novel in 1996 before being adapted into a beloved 2004 film. Now, the musical version, which opened on Broadway in 2024, is headed to town for its Las Vegas debut, March 31 to April 5. A few hours before one of Stereophonic’s eight recent performances in Reynolds Hall, Members who donate $1,000 or more annually to the nonprofit performing arts center had the unique opportunity to hear Butler – along with Director Daniel Aukin, Music Director Justin Craig and Lead Producers Sue Wagner and John Johnson – share insight into a Broadway play that earned the most nominations in Tony Awards® history.
