International songbird and the undisputed first lady of music, Kym Mazelle, two-time Grammy® nominee, is a trailblazer whose electrifying voice and genre-defining hits helped bring house music from Chicago’s underground clubs to the global stage. With groundbreaking collaborations alongside Soul II Soul, David Morales and Marshall Jefferson—and signature hits like “Wait,” “Young Hearts Run Free” and “Missing You”—her influence spans across dance, pop and R&B charts worldwide.
Originally from Gary, Indiana, just blocks away from the Jackson family, Mazelle was immersed in music from an early age. She later earned her degree in Arts and Entertainment Media Management from Columbia College Chicago, where she studied music business, production and contract law, preparing her for a long-lasting career on and off the stage.
Kym Mazelle is widely recognized as one of the original pioneers of house music, earning the title “The First Lady of House Music” by critics and fans alike. Her music uniquely blends house, disco, soul and pop, laying the groundwork for the genre’s expansion beyond Chicago. In the late '80s and early '90s, after signing a lucrative record deal with EMI/Synchopate Records, Mazelle relocated to the UK, where she played a key role in bringing house music to European mainstream audiences.
Her solo breakout came with 1988’s Useless (I Don’t Need You Now), followed by a UK Top 10 hit in 1989 with “Wait,” a duet with Robert Howard of The Blow Monkeys. She rose to even greater prominence in 1990 as the featured vocalist for Soul II Soul’s “Missing You” from their platinum-selling album Vol. II: 1990 – A New Decade. In 1996, her hit cover of “Young Hearts Run Free” was featured in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet, introducing her powerhouse voice to an entirely new generation of fans.
Mazelle's collaborations span an incredible list of industry legends, including David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Grace Jones, Pete Tong, David Guetta, Mick Jagger, Chaka Khan, Naomi Campbell, Defected Records, Simon Cowell and Pino Sagliocco. She has also worked alongside iconic cultural and industry figures such as Kanya King, The JB Horns and more, cementing her status as both a music icon and cultural contributor.
Her television appearances include Celebrity MasterChef, Celebrity Fit Club, Celebrity Weakest Link and multiple guest spots as a panelist, speaker, presenter and performer on international TV specials and award shows. She has also lent her voice to numerous international voice-over campaigns and commercials, and her story has been showcased in institutions such as the V&A Museum.
Kym’s stage presence extends beyond concerts to the theater. Her musical theatre credits include the London West End production of Thriller Live, the international tour of Ray Charles: I Can’t Stop Loving You, and Smokey Joe’s Café. She has also headlined top-tier festivals including COT80s (Ibiza & Tenerife), Ministry of Sound Classical, Let’s Rock Festival and many more.
In 2017, Mazelle celebrated her 30th anniversary in the music industry with a commemorative tour. In 2024, she was speculated to be the powerhouse voice behind the Eiffel Tower on The Masked Singer UK, reaffirming her enduring mystique and vocal supremacy.
With a voice that fuses gospel soul, R&B depth and club-ready fire, Kym Mazelle remains one of music’s most dynamic and enduring talents. Her legacy continues to inspire and shape the global dance scene—from London to Ibiza to Las Vegas—proving that true artistry transcends genre, geography and time.
