Meet the Artist

: For more than six decades, Jimmy Webb has written songs that have become part of the fabric of American music. The multiple Grammy-winning songwriter behind “Wichita Lineman,” “MacArthur Park,” “Galveston,” “By the Time I Get to Phoenix,” “Didn’t We,” “Up, Up and Away,” “Worst That Could Happen” and “The Highwayman” has built a body of work remarkable not only for its longevity, but for its extraordinary range.

Raised in Oklahoma as the son of a Baptist minister, Webb arrived in Los Angeles as a teenager and landed his first professional songwriting job at Motown before quickly becoming one of the defining songwriters of his generation. His songs would go on to be recorded by an astonishing cross-section of artists, including Glen Campbell, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, Art Garfunkel, Donna Summer, The Highwaymen, The Fifth Dimension, James Taylor, Little Big Town, R.E.M. and countless others.

Among his many honors, Webb has received the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s prestigious Johnny Mercer Award and was its youngest-ever inductee for decades. He is also a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Great American Songbook Hall of Fame, and has received the Academy of Country Music’s Poet’s Award and an Ivor Novello Award. His influence extends across generations, genres and musical traditions, making him one of the rare songwriters whose work is both unmistakably of its time and continually new.
