A trusting collaboration was instant and “egoless” between the creative team of Nelson, Bareilles, Paulus and choreographer Lorin Latarro, "Waitress" writer Jessie NelsonNelson says. While the foursome didn’t realize it right away, they comprised the first all-female creative team in Broadway history.

“I could bring my son to rehearsals, but we would never quite go to performances,” production stage manager with “The Lion King” national tour MatthewShiner says. “You never know how your child (on the autism spectrum) is going to respond.” Many families with members on the autism spectrum can understand. That’s why The Smith Center will present a special sensory-friendly performance of the production.

Admiring the view from the Row B parterre box in Reynolds Hall at The Smith Center, Sarah Iwamuro said she had never sat so close to the stage. “This is incredible,” said the Las Vegas resident and mother of four. Sarah was the randomly selected winner of The Smith Center’s drawing for two free tickets to all 10 shows of the 2018-2019 Broadway season.

There probably isn’t an instrumental music fan alive today who wouldn’t recognize the soaring sax stylings and perfectly coiffed hair of Kenny G, the Grammy-winning saxophonist hailed as one of the best-selling instrumental musicians of all time. Excited to perform at The Smith Center, Kenny G shared some surprising personal insights and stories with us.

Just a few hours before performance time at The Smith Center’s Camp Broadway, Sarah Mibulano was bubbly with anticipation. This not only marked Mibulano’s first year with Camp Broadway, it was also her first time performing in an ensemble show in this country, since her family came to America in 2015 from their native Congo.

Inside the Theater
Weeks before “Hamilton” came to The Smith Center, Whitney Hobbs started preparing for the show. She listened obsessively to the soundtrack. She met almost daily with her coworkers to rehearse each scene. Hobbs is not an actress. She is one of the locally based, certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters providing ASL interpretation during Broadway productions.

When Sheldon and Nancy Laube searched nationwide for a new city to relocate to, the couple chose Las Vegas for a specific reason. Both passionate arts lovers who enjoyed concerts and Broadway shows in San Francisco, the Laubes were amazed to discover they could enjoy the best of music, theater and dance all under one roof at The Smith Center.
