Sensory Inclusive
The Smith Center advocates for making live productions accessible to all, including individuals on the autism spectrum or with other sensitivities, like Michael. That’s why for the first time ever, The Smith Center will present sensory friendly productions offering special accommodations for audiences on the autism spectrum and with other sensory deficits.

Education and Outreach
Animal cries filled the auditorium of Goldfarb Elementary in late February as scores of floppy eared monkeys and elephants poured onto the stage.
As one, they started to shimmy and sing to the opening number of Disney musical “The Jungle Book.”

Looking at Paul Anka’s tour schedule, it’s easy to mistake the 76-year-old for the teenager he was when his career first began. With concerts slated every month — almost every week, in fact — over the next several months, the revered pop icon shows no signs of slowing down. It’s all possible because of his incessant drive to create, he says.

Not many birthday parties involve exclusive use of a Smith Center theater, attendance by 100 community leaders like Tony Hsieh, and a personal serenade by Las Vegas headliner Frankie Moreno. But the 90th birthday for Smith Center Founder Janice Allen was no ordinary fete.

For folk music legend Judy Collins, the nationally beloved song “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” by Crosby, Stills & Nash represents more than just an iconic melody. It’s singer Stephen Stills’ personal ode to her, a vestige of their brief and fiery romance decades ago. The two couldn’t have known when they first met decades ago that their lives and music would remain permanently intertwined.

Lily Tomlin can sum up the comedy industry for women when she started out. Her female costar performed “hilariously funny” slapstick routines, she says — but only in their dressing room. “That was the credo back then," says Tomlin. "To be a woman and do comedy, you had to be homely or overweight, or ditzy or a screwball. Something had to be wrong with you.”
